Project CAMS41 Phase 2
Optimization of CH4 wetland emissions in CTESSEL model using FLUXNET-CH4 dataset
All site simulations are done with the same CTESSEL configuration:
- Low vegetation fraction (CVL): 1, high vegetation fraction (CVH): 0
- Low vegetation type (TVL): PFT13 (Bogs and marshes)
- Vegetation cover (RVCOV): 1
- Reference respiration (RVR0VT): 0.27E-06 kgCO2/m2/s
- Wetland extent fraction: 1 (constant)
The 44 sites are selected out of the total number of 72, showing the optimization improvement on the single-site level.
With the selected sites the multiple-site optimization is performed, grouping the sites by:
- PFT (PFT13)
- TYPE (Bog, Drained, Fen, Lake, Marsh, Rice, Salt marsh, Swamp, Upland, Wet tundra)
- IGBP (BSV, CRO, EBF, ENF, GRA, MF, WAT, WET)
- Dominant vegetation (aerenchymatous, eri_shrub, moss_sphagnum, tree)
In multiple-site optimization one pair of parameters per group is optimized: s (scaling factor) and Q10 (temperature dependency factor)
The best performance is obtained by optimizing with the TYPE grouping, the results are summarized below:
Type | Sites | s | Q10 |
Bog | 6 | 0.00593 | 2.06 |
Drained | 1 | 0.00174 | 1.41 |
Fen | 7 | 0.00776 | 2.06 |
Lake | 1 | 0.0316 | 3.79 |
Marsh | 10 | 0.00922 | 2.68 |
Rice | 4 | 0.00834 | 2.91 |
Salt marsh | 2 | 0.000314 | 4 |
Swamp | 3 | 0.00847 | 2.32 |
Upland | 3 | 0.000595 | 2.64 |
Wet tundra | 7 | 0.00502 | 2.1 |
